A description of the upstream parameters including modulation, symbol rate, channel width, and frequency. Each upstream that is provided by the Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) has its own set of these characteristics. For each upstream, a separate UCD message is broadcast by the CMTS. It is imperative that the cable modem (CM) uses these UCD messages to match the available upstream characteristics to its own capabilities and that a particular upstream is paired with a downstream.
