A physical point or conceptional location. SAP is used to describe a location on a circuit that may be accessed or in the case of Open Systems Interconnection (OSI), a point at which a designated service may be obtained. SAP can identify the individual application on a host which is sending or receiving a packet, similar to how a port identifies a TCP/IP application.
