A term first used by John Sculley on January 7, 1992 to describe Apple's Newton but later was genericized to describe any small mobile hand held device that provides computing and information storage retrieval capabilities for personal or business use, often for keeping schedule calendars and adress book information handy. PDA can function as a cellular phone, fax sender, personal organizer and incorporate handwriting and/or voice recognition features. PDAs also are called palmtops, handheld computers, and pocket computers.
