Identifies the format and type of address in use and is one octet in length. The AFI consists of an integer with a value between 0 and 99 with an abstract syntax of two decimal digits, that is, the AFI codes are binary coded decimal (BCD). An AFI octet for public data networks (PDN)s must take a value of 37 hexadecimal, and 47 hexadecimal for Internet.
