Advertising:

  • The average (American) city dweller is exposed to 5,000 ads per day, up from 2,000 per day 30 years ago. (New York Times)
  • Spending for internet video advertising in the US hits $640 million.
  • The average return on every dollar spent on email marketing is $57.25. (DMA)
  • Internet advertising revenues amounted to $12.5 billion, representing a 30% increase over 2004, and Q4 revenues hit $3.6 billion marking the second straight quarter the volume went over $3 billion. (Interactive Advertising Bureau)

CPE:

  • About 750,000 laptops were stolen. (Absolute Software)

  • The iTunes store sells over 5 million songs a day, or 58 songs every second.

Population Trends:

  • 72 percent of the US population is now online, with a vast majority of users engaged in online purchases (67 percent), making travel reservations (63 percent), conducting product research (73 percent), and obtaining health information from the Internet (79 percent). 36 percent play online games, 25 percent download music, and 18 percent download movies. (Pew Internet and American Life)

  • CBS buys College Sports Television Network (CSTN) for $325 million, November 3, 2005

Market:

  • HDTV
    • 16 percent of US households own a high-definition TV (CEA)

  • There are 108.8 million households (HH) in the US. (US Census)
