| Peek BW Threshold (less than expand) (greater than split) |
| NOTES: Split rules allows the split recommendations performed by the IP Address Management interface to be tailored to the preference of the operator. Some operators may prefer to manage fewer large subnets where as some would like to manage many smaller subnets. A compromise of these extremes is also provided. There really is no best way thus its a nice to have the management interface make recommendations that will best fit the preferred IP Address Management technique of the operator -- since its their job after all and the management interface should aim at making their job easier no matter how they prefer to manage their IP address space. Peek Bandwidth (BW) Threshold setting instructs the the IP Address Management interface when it should look to split or expand subnets accordingly. The Peek BW is determined by monitoring/sampling each subnet and maintaining a peek BW achieved by the clients associated with each subnet. Since expanding the subnet would permit the number of clients associated with the subnet to double, a peek BW of more than 50% will likely cause a slowdown/bottleneck on that subnet before its IP addresses are sufficiently utilized. |
