Bruce's Muskies Caught and Released The
following are details of fish I've caught, where I caught them, what I caught them on, and
the conditions on the day I caught them. Musky fishing is all about knowing good fishing
conditions and what lures to use. In an effort to better understand this information I've
kept track of this so as to help me prune down the number of fishing lures I maintain.
My Current Musky Count: 11

Best Fishing Days:
| 9/02/2002 |
Fun day of fishing with cozen Nate, boated only 3, but lost 2 near the
boat and had three blowouts - personally landed only one small 27" and missed landing
2 at the boat, but enjoyed helping net my cozen's first Musky! |
| 6/12/2002 |
Unreal day of Fishing, boated 7 in 8 hours with two different people in
two different boats - personally landed 3 (32", 39", and 45") |
| 9/12/2001 |
Day after 9/11 attacks (bright sunny day - not an airplane in the sky),
boated 6, lost two at boat - personally landed only 1 (32") but enjoyed helping net
for Pete who had an awesome day |
Most Exciting Catches:
| 06/11/2003 |
First Figure 8 Catch - While reeling in saw flash of a tail up near the boat and immediately went into a figure 8 pattern. Pete told me to keep the pattern large while keeping the lure deep (least a couple feet under the surface). After about 10 figure 8's Pete said
to keep going and also to raise and lower the lure while keeping the speed relatively constant. After about my 15th figure 8 I could no longer see the fish or any signs of life beneath the boat but I kept going... All of the sudden... WHAM! This fish hit the lure with vengeance and I
almost lost my reel as well as my balance (nearly fell out of the boat) because I was so unprepared for the strike. We landed this fish (38" musky) and my best description of the experience - AWESOME! Because your so close to the action these hits are unbelievably hard and you'll need
to be prepared to free spool if the fish decides to run. |
