PHASE #8 of Home Remodeling Project
"Don't ever trust a contractor who thinks he's a weatherman!"

[On to Phase 9] [Seen Enough]

[Project Overview] [Home Design Reference] [Lien Waver Example] [Buy a House] [Heating & AC]

It was around midnight, when it hit. A peaceful night turned this once exciting renovation upside down as rain began to fall. Little did I know that my roof was still exposed. While the dormers were still not yet completed, sheeting lay across the rest of the roof and there were several tarps up there as well. However, on this night, the contractor decided it was NOT going to rain. Rather than spend an extra half an hour tacking back down the tarps, he left them rolled up on the roof where they provide little if any leakage prevention. Ended up getting around 1-2 inches that night which caused nearly $10,000 in damages to home and person property. These pictures show only part of the story!

Water can been seen here as it come through the ceiling of the first floor and into the kitchen.

Here you can see droplets of water as it came down through the center of our living room.

Several container help keep some of the water from entering into the carpet but it was tough as it seemed to be coming in everywhere...

As water continued to come in to the house, it began to enter into wall paper and light fixtures.

So much water continued to come in that the ceiling became soaked and began to bubble so that joint in the drywall began to show.

All this water eventually collected in the basement where it pooled... The house was so completely soaked with water that it would drip for several days.

This was the contractor's idea of covering the house! All that covered the house was some sheeting (plywood) over a bulk of the house, and a large tarp that was supposed to cover the unfinished dormers but was left where it placed the previous day as it was in the way of workers... They were too lazy to cover the house at the end of each day thinking that it wouldn't rain...
