Substance
of the Invention: For the part “Substance of the
Invention”, the patent attorney will expect to receive from you about
3-4 pages of text, plus at least 2 different drawings. It is expected
that 2-4 hours of work will be required to fill out this section. You
may always do more work, and give us more than 4 pages or more than 2
drawings, but the expectations listed here reflect a balance between the
need for adequate information and respect for your time. Absence of
adequate information will be easier in the short-run, but will cost more
time, and harm quality, in the long-run. In addition to whatever we
request here, feel free to attach any notes, notebook entries, or any
other material you think useful to describe the invention.
It is expected that the writing of the
text (not including the drawings) should require not more than 2 hours.
The time for the drawings depends on how many drawings there will be and
how complicated they are. It is preferable that the drawings be in
electronic form, if possible. If that is not possible, or if it is too
burdensome, then you may make drawings by hand if you want, just so long
as it is possible to read what is written. Also, if you wish to attach
files to the form, such as Powerpoint Presentations or Design
Descriptions, feel free to do so. Anything that will help non-inventors
understand would be appreciated. |
