Reading List of Interesting People

A reading list about people I've found especially interesting throughout my life/career.

iCon Steve Jobs
By: Jeffery S. Young & William L. Simon

My Take: Covers Apples entry into the i<series> devices (imac, ipod) and the interesting goings on internal to Apple. From press restructuring to repurposing software bought from a third party it is a wonder iTunes works as well as it does. However, it just goes to show you that you don't need to have something perfect to make a serious go at it.

cover Inside Intel:
Andy Grove and the Rise of the World's Most Powerful Chip Company

By: Tim Jackson

My Take: Andy Grove is a completely paranoid man who's antics cost Intel precious talent but also saved the company untold sums of money. What I found especially interesting is that Intel's founders actually provided seed capital for the formation of AMD (Intel's chief rival).

cover It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life
By: Lance Armstrong & Sally Jenkins

My Take: Lance Armstrong through thick and thin! I found reading this to be a very intense and emotional -- almost as if I was right by his side and perhaps even inside his head (could not put this book down). You really get the sense of what it takes to triumph over a debilitating illness and the sense of purpose that resonates with these people after its all over. Hats of to Lance and those like him -- an inspiration to us all!

cover Second Coming of Steve Jobs
By: Alan Deutschman

My Take: Steve Jobs at his best, worst, and then best yet. A very revealing look at what makes the guy tick as well as how persuasive he can be. It is hard to imagine what would have happened to the personal computer industry if the NeXT operating system would have been sold/licensed to IBM -- it may well have been the end of Microsoft and possibly even Apple as we know it.

Have a book you'd like me to review? Just send it to me, if I like it I'll write a review and post it on this web site. Use the feedback link below to contact me for more information.
